Red-green deficiency is the most common by far. This focused test uses deutan (green-weak) and protan (red-weak) plates to estimate which axis is more affected.

Some plates show no number to most people, and “I can't see a number” is a normal, expected answer, not a failure.

Deutan vs protan: what's the difference?
Both are red-green deficiencies, but they come from different cone cells:
- Deutan (deuteranomaly / deuteranopia) involves the green-sensitive cones. It's the most common type of color vision deficiency.
- Protan (protanomaly / protanopia) involves the red-sensitive cones. People with a protan type also perceive red as darker than people with normal vision do.
On this test, deutan and protan plates are colored along slightly different confusion lines, so the pattern of which plates you miss hints at which axis is more affected. It's an estimate a clinician can confirm the exact type and degree.
